Ok. So this Miyazaki film is not like Spirited Away or Howl's Moving Castle. In all honesty, I had no clue what was going on and what the main purpose of the film was. At one point I was bored. But I continued cos I made a vow to watch every single Ghibli movie. I googled for the explanation and finally understood the beauty of this film. It's quite sad really.
So as engineers, they were made to make plane building as their top priority and family second. Despite his fiance being gravely ill, he did his best in both fields. The guy just wanted to make a beautiful plane and the irony is, that beautiful plane was used for atrocity; bombing Pearl Harbor. At the end his wife had died without him being beside her but she appears in his dream and told him to live on before disappearing. It really is bloody sad and even more sad that I had very little understanding of what was happening to fully appreciate the story and the art. I love Hayao Miyazaki and he will always be my hero. He made amazing films and I hope Studio Ghibli will continue to grow as big as it is now.
